SAVANDURGA

DATE:8th October, 2006
Yes enough is enough.........we had done lot of 2-3 day trips. We thought of a short trip this time. Sud-suddenly (Bangalore lingo) i find myself on my brand new pulsar going to SAVANDURGA with Shar and varda on a Sunday morning!!!!!!!!

Yup, you heard it right. Shar, varda and I were on our way to a not so famous trek route of SAVANDURGA on our bikes. Savandurga is a huge mountain and a difficult trek too. It is in Magadi Taluk, just 45km from Bangalore. It can be approached both via Mysore Road as well as Magadi road.

We left Bangalore at 7.30am. The drive to savandurga is truly sensational. Trees, curvy roads along the mountains and good scenic beauty too. We had to go through a forest called Ramanagaram Wildlife.

There is a dam along the way. We stopped at this place for a small break. Had tea-bun (the best combination u can think of) and started again. Misadventure struck us as usual. It started
raining. We had to stop over. We reached Savandurga by 10am and we started our trek right away.

The mountain was too steep and slippery as it had rained. The initial leg of the mountain was itself too steep. It did take us a lot of time to cross just 200 mts. I had crossed this milestone was waiting for the others to catch up. Meanwhile, the actual problem started, it starting pouring again, this time heavily. Good for me I found a rock, underneath which i took shelter along with a couple of goats. I was waiting for the others to catch-up.

After sometime the rain got stalled and we continued our trek. The next leg was a fort build by Kempegowda, the founder of Bangalore. The fort is not maintained. Some part of the fort was broken some still stood. We thought that we had completed the trek, but we soon realized that it was just half of it.

The next leg was very very steep. This time we made sure that we trek together. The peak of the mountain has a NANDI TEMPLE.

The view from the top was absolutely mind-blowing. We stayed on top of the mountain looking at the large river MUNJUMBLE and the forest cover.

It was very peaceful and blissful. Undoubtfully, the best moments we experienced all day.
We started to climb down the mountain by 2pm and reached the base of the mountain by 5pm. Guess what, it started raining again. We visited the temple at the foot of the mountain and herded back to Bangalore in the rain.

It was a truly an enchanting and exciting one day trip we ever had.
